Many believe that Joe Brooks (1901-1972) did more to promote and expand the popularity of fly fishing than anyone in his day. Brooks was a passionate fly fisherman and freelance outdoor writer. He became outdoor editor for Maryland’s Baltimore Sun, and wrote articles for all of the major fishing magazines. Joe even served as fishing editor for Outdoor Life magazine for a short time.
Brooks influenced many popular figures in the fly fishing world. He taught the great Ted Williams to fly fish, and helped get Lefty Kreh started in the fly fishing business. He was featured in a popular outdoor television show and published numerous fly fishing books.
